Our local field team, just as skilled at climbing trees as binturongs, successfully replaced the batteries and memory cards in our camera traps this month. The camera traps installed in the trees continually bring us promising news, like this little binturong trying to climb onto its mother's back. We have also observed many young ones accompanied by their mothers, which suggests that binturongs may have more than one offspring in the wild! In your opinion, how many young ones are there in the second photo?
Alongside camera surveillance, our direct trapping and nocturnal observation efforts for viverrids are continuing despite the rains. As the rainy season approaches, our team is considering various strategies to implement in order to ensure both efficiency and safety.
Finally, the team is very happy to announce that we recently had a fruitful meeting with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to discuss our current progress in scientific research, outreach, and community engagement. We discussed various ways to collaborate for binturong conservation and we are truly looking forward to carrying out our future collaborations!
See you next month for a new edition of field news! Kitakits! (See you later!)
