Our team continued its attempts to capture a binturong for radio-tracking purposes by setting up an additional trap to reinforce our efforts. This project is essential to better understand the movement patterns and habitat use of binturongs, and we remain patient and determined throughout this process.

At the beginning of the month, the field team was accompanied by The Puerto Podcast and Icarus Productions for the filming of a short documentary highlighting the work of the BSP (Bearcat Study Program). We were also joined by representatives from the ENRO (Environmental and Natural Resources Office) of the City of Puerto Princesa, whose presence in the field demonstrates the importance of collaborative conservation.
Following the training provided last month by the Talarak Foundation Inc., Marlon led a refresher session for our forest guides on radio-tracking techniques, thereby strengthening local capacities for the upcoming monitoring phase. The local team also underwent training on the Zoomonitor mobile application, which will be used to record binturong behavior during future radio-tracking sessions. The development of shared skills remains at the heart of our approach.
In this season of gratitude and new beginnings, we presented personalized gifts to our local BSP partners, as a modest yet sincere thank-you for their unwavering trust and support.
On the administrative front, efforts to renew our agreements with indigenous communities have resumed, in coordination with the NCIP (National Commission on Indigenous Peoples). These efforts are essential to ensure that our work continues in a spirit of respect, transparency, and long-term partnership.
We are also delighted to welcome Emma, our new intern, who is joining us for five months and has already participated in her first field expedition!
Finally, we bid a warm farewell to Elli, our dedicated civic service volunteer. We are deeply grateful to her for her contribution to the project and wish her much success in the next step of her journey.
