Binturongs are not pets!
You may have seen photos and/or videos of binturongs in cages, playing with dogs or cats, being carried on the shoulders or even fed by hand... It is not cute because it is not natural! In a majority of cases, this type of content involves illegally trafficked animals raised in miserable conditions or in the best case unsuitable for them.
Interact in a positive way (likes, comments) with this kind of posts, it means participating in the decline of the animal in its natural environment. Often those animals are hunted, separated from their mother, malnourished, mistreated, with a broken biological rhythm or horrible living conditions. Many do not manage to survive and die prematurely and unnaturally.
The dangers are not only related to the animal, but also involve a high risk of bites scratches and transfer of diseases such as pasteurellosis, staphylococcus or tetanus. 🦠
The binturong lives naturally in the rainforests of Southeast Asia 🌏. He is mainly nocturnal 🌌 and prefers the high sphere of trees 🌳, where he has almost no interaction with Human. Owning a wild animal in captivity should never be seen as a hobby, it should only be done when necessary: for research or conservation purposes 🔬. There is no ethical way of adopting a binturong or interacting with them when it is only for the selfish Human satisfaction.
